Stepping out publicly for the first time since announcing their engagement November 16, Prince William and Kate Middleton were all smiles as they attended a holiday fundraiser in Fakenham, England Saturday.

Wearing a geometric black and white dress and a demure blazer, Middleton, 28, looked confident as she walked alongside the future King of England -- and with good reason.

"Kate was given royal assistance like no other girl has ever been given before entering the family," a palace insider recently told Us Weekly.

According to Katie Nicholl, author of William and Harry: Behind the Palace Walls, palace staff began showing Middleton footage of the late Princess Diana "getting out of a car and paparazzi going berserk, so that Kate would know how to deal with it. Now she already knows how this works."

The future Princess will also receive tutorials on royal correspondence, public speaking, and "how to behave at banquets," Nicholl added.

Less than a week after Us Weekly exclusively broke the news of their engagement, Jessica Simpson, 30, and Eric Johnson, 31, celebrated with friends and family at a party on Thursday night.

PHOTOS: Jessica and Eric's wild romance

About 40 to 50 people, including a few NFL players, gathered at the California home of Simpson's parents, Joe and Tina. Guests were served hamburger and veggie burger sliders, chicken skewers, mini pizzas, shrimp, and for dessert, mini cupcakes.

"They were very happy," a friend of Jessica's tells UsMagazine.com. "It was the first time they had seen a lot of their friends since the engagement. She was excited to see her girlfriends."

The couple began dating in June, when Johnson was separated from his wife of five years, Keri. (His divorce was finalized October 7.) Simpson split from ex-husband Nick Lachey, 37, in 2005.

Up next for the twosome is a trip to NYC, where Simpson is scheduled to perform during Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.

LeAnn Rimes - who, according to E! News, is engaged to Eddie Cibrian - skipped Shape's party Thursday night to honor her third time appearing on the magazine's cover.

PHOTOS: Eddie and LeAnn's romance: How it started

Her rep insists it had nothing to do with a letter of apology editor Valerie Latona sent to readers who were upset at the November cover featuring the country crooner, who famously had an affair with Eddie Cibrian on a Lifetime movie set last year.

She has also canceled a show Friday at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona, N.Y.

"Unfortunately she caught the flu, and under doctor's orders was advised not to travel or go out," her rep says.
